He had it overhauled 1970 when he bought it. It hasn't been repaired or serviced since. It hasn't even been cleaned! This sax needs an overhaul if you want to use it for professional playing. Most pads are in good condition though, so a collector only needs a few adjustments to make it fully playable.
I've been able to play it throughout, down to low Bb and yes the sound is just what you can expect from a Selmer from the 50s!! The condition of this saxophone is amazing!
Old Selmers rarely come in a condition that is nearly as good as this! Most of the lacquer is intact but first and foremost it's really clean!!! There are very few deap scratches. Actually, there are surprinsingly few scratches at all. There are very few marks or pitting on the lacquer. There are a few small areas where the brass shows through. There are also a couple of places where there are cracks in the lacquer. I've taken close up photos of every single part of this saxophone.
Especially of the areas of wear and tear! The saxophone will be packed professionally. I want only the best for this horn! I have done my best to describe the saxophone as fair as possible.
It's in really great condition but you will have to be the judge of that. Take a carefull look at the hundreds of pictures below!Pictures can be sent in full size to you if requested. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. The saxophone is available for play testing and inspection. HUNDREDS OF PICTURES CAN BE FOUND HERE.
